Underrated

It's a shame Wings kind of got lost amidst the 90s sitcoms because it was a gentle comedy that deserved more than its due.

Mayhap Wings can exist rebooted now that more than people are flying.

Great comedy serial.

This is 1 of my favorite Goggle box shows. Not that there is much competition as there aren't many network sitcoms I like all that much. This ane is one of the few funny ones and information technology is apparent it wasn't fully appreciated until it was gone. This one focuses on a small airport on the Island of Nantucket. Two brothers own a small outfit and the competition is right across the way. Most of the episodes are hilarious, I was happy to meet it on Nick at Nite, as I never taped this shows on United states so I had no manner to meet them when they stopped showing them. For the most role the bandage was great and I just take a couple of complaints about the show. I, like one of the writers I didn't enjoy the Farrah Forke years as much. Information technology was still a good show, but to many of the episodes focused on her during those years. She was an all right graphic symbol, but like I said to many of the episodes seemed to exist almost her and the brothers trying to win her over during her years on the show. Two, I wish Thomas Hayden Church stayed aboard. I am surprised he didn't come back when his evidence tanked, cause I sure haven't seen him much since this show.

It'southward Irrestible

Wings has always been a groovy evidence with a wonderful cast of colorful actors similar the Hackett brothers, the Chappel sisters, Lowell, Antonio, Fay, & Roy merely I am probably leaving somebody out. Unlike most sitcoms, the prove is set in Nantucket, far from the Los Angeles or New York Metropolis which is another reason to sentry solitary. Set in a small airport, Fay and Roy are always a pleasance to scout. Lowell is a unique graphic symbol. The fact that the Hacketts, Lowell, and the Chappel sisters accept a history in Nantucket is too useful for creating great plots effectually their history. I have enough of favorite episodes like the psycho Valerie Mahaffey's character in recreating their senior prom, honeymoon, hymeneals etc. I besides liked Farrah Forke's character only she left one season. These actors appear to accept a adept time on screen and off-screen which makes it another reason to watch. I just watched the Christmas episode where Antonio's girlfriend is the wife of his kidnapper, the new air traffic controller, who takes him hostage when he takes his donut. Certain the absurdity sometimes is one-half the fun of this show.

Pleasant Diversion Ensemble Comedy

Alarm: Spoilers

Wings for 7 seasons was a bear witness on NBC like information technology'south premise. The evidence is about a pocket-size airport near Nantucket, Massachusets which has a group of small charter airlines flying by the seat of their pants out of it. At times it would hit a funny vein, & at times it was only there. NBC kept moving the bear witness around on it's schedule like it had wings & would be watched anytime or whatsoever day. That ultimately led to information technology catastrophe.

This was never a big striking, but the ensemble always found ways to keep things fresh. The brothers Tim Daly & Steven Webber (aka. the Hacketts) always seemed to be at each others throats virtually something involving their lease plane, their lives, or something. Crystal Barnard was Joe Hacketts object of affection. That kind of wore sparse subsequently in the series every bit they never had things come off right & actually Crystal is not all that attractive.

Tony Schalub every bit Antonio & Thomas Hayden Church equally Lowell were major assets in their recurring roles in the serial. David Schramm as Roy Biggens was also a sarcastic funny character. This whole serial was about funny people & situations. If you could follow it around NBC's flighty schedule for it, you enjoyed some adept comedy.

Equally the series never got big, it's play in reruns has been limited, & quite frankly there is not much demand for information technology. If you want a pleasant diversion though, this show is for you. Finding it might exist better to try DVD's as stations don't run it much.

A pure definition of must-encounter Television!

"WINGS," in my stance, is a pure definition of must-see Tv set! Despite the fact that I've never seen every episode, I still enjoyed it. My favorite i is the one with the Christmas party. Y'all'll have to take seen it for yourself if yous want to know how any why. Everyone always gave a good functioning, the production pattern was spectacular, the costumes were well-designed, and the writing was always very strong. Before I wrap this up, I promise that all you dice-hard fans of the show will ever accept information technology live on in syndication. In conclusion, even though it tin can be seen in syndication now, I strongly recommend you catch it before it goes off the air for good.

Skillful humor.

The bandage in this Idiot box series is meridian notch, and the writing regarding a small contained New England airliner is a welcome premise. The eclectic drove of characters is the usual successful mix for a situation comedy that teethes with clever intellectual humor mixed in with slapstick.

Written as a loose tie in with the Cheers/Frasier milieu, the characters of Sandpiper Airlines cater to the escapist charlatan seeking a New England holiday. The situations are typical for sit down-coms; the mundane are turned onto their heads and hilarity ensues.

If I had i gripe with the series information technology'southward that every bit with all situation comedies a few characters left after the first few seasons, the situations seemed to be more than contrived, and the presentations less spontaneous. Even then, fifty-fifty though the energy was more refined in the after seasons, I yet tuned in on occasion for some skillful one-time fashioned laughs at the expense of the employees of Sandpiper Airline.

I don't have too much else to say about the show. I liked it for what it was, and watched information technology regularly until the show started to shift somewhat. For the fourth dimension I watched it, Wings reminded me of the classic situation comedies of former, and delivered sense of humour on all levels.

I haven't seen the show since it beginning aired. A reviewing would be inviting at this point.

Super solid comedy from the 90s!

Warning: Spoilers

WINGS, which ran for 8 seasons from 1990-1997, is ane my favorite comedies. In a fashion, it is a lot more watchable than even and so-called "better" comedies considering it has a very inviting, comfortable feel and always seemed to stay inside it's zone. It never actually got overly serious as other comedies and ever maintained a light, fun approach to storytelling. And, 99.9% of the time, the jokes were spot on, so spot on that they are notwithstanding funny upon repeat viewing.

A major strength of WINGS is the dialogue, which seems so spontaneous and advertizing-libbed at times that I wonder how much of it comes from the writers and how much from the actors (I'd bet a fair corporeality came from them!). Much of the dialogue is actually conversational and not just to prepare jokes and punchlines, similar in most situation comedies. And so I discover myself laughing DURING the conversations, not merely at the end of them!

In general terms, like many of the great comedies, WINGS was simply equally funny in it's later seasons as it was in the early ones (I cartel say the later seasons were funnier!). The before seasons are a lot more structured and plot-oriented, whereas the afterwards seasons, because nosotros already know the characters so well, the plot plays 2nd fiddle to the characters we have come to know and beloved and they just run with information technology!

WINGS starred the cracking, underrated telly stalwart Timothy Daly (who should have at least one Emmy for something by now!) every bit Joe Hackett, owner of Sandpiper Air in the tiny island of Nantucket outside of Boston. Joe got to live his dream of owning his own airline and the opening scene introduces usa to this central grapheme. "Joe" is the appropriate proper name for this character as he was truly an "Everyday Joe", "Everyman", "Regular Joe" type of character! A stickler for guild and neatness, Joe was borderline anal retentive! And Daly Always was in graphic symbol. I think playing the straight man amongst a sea of wacko characters is one of the hardest things to do and Daly's Joe was the calm, solid heart for the show's entire run. Not to mention that Daly was only as funny as his co-stars and he didn't demand to human activity similar a wacko to be funny!

But Daly wasn't the but star. Steven Weber hilariously essayed the part of Brian Hackett (Joe'due south younger, cooler, zanier brother who initially worked for him and in later seasons became his equal partner in the airline). Brian was mayhap my favorite grapheme as he was always and so sarcastic, nutty, and witty, even in serious situations that yous just HAD to laugh at him. I only couldn't aid myself from laughing at Brian's antics (even when I tried!). Weber'southward comic timing was merely plain superb. If I had to choose ONE actor from WINGS to that should accept won an Emmy for their role, it would have been Weber.

The chemistry between Daly and Weber as siblings Joe and Brian is some of the best I've e'er seen on a TV show. In that location are a lot of times where I'd swear I was watching real brothers interact...They are that good!

The third star (who could as well be considered a supporting grapheme) was the infectiously funny and wild Crystal Bernard every bit Helen Chappell, the Hackett brothers babyhood friend who would somewhen become Joe's wife in later seasons. She ran the tiffin counter at the airport, the primal location for every episode of the testify. I personally liked Helen a lot more than in later seasons (when she and Joe got married) than before. I call up her union to Joe (who she had a beat on forever!) really lightened her up in a adept way and allowed Bernard to testify her full comic range. She and Joe's barrack pre-marriage seemed a chip besides Sam-and-Dianeish (a la CHEERS) for me; usually, when a testify finally puts a couple together, it is the deathknell, but WINGS flourished subsequently they finally got Joe and Helen together.

The supporting cast was magnificent and 1 of the best ensembles ever: the daffy airline mechanic Lowell (played by Thomas Haden Church, who left early on in Season vii to star in his own show NED AND STACEY), the brothers' airline banana, the esteemed earth-weary, sarcastic Fay (played the unabridged run past Rebecca Schull), the brothers rival at the airline, the boisterous, unapologetic robust Roy (played unabridged run by David Schramm), the lovable, Italian loser cabbie Antonio (probably my 2d favorite grapheme, played by Tony Shalhoub, who anybody now knows every bit MONK!), Helen's looney, spurned-past-her-hubby-jack-of-all-trades older sis Casey Chappell (played wonderfully past the delightfully radiant Amy Yasbeck in Seasons 6, 7, and eight, the concluding three seasons of the show).

Too, at that place was helicopter pilot Alex (played by Farrah Forke in Season 5). While a solid character, I didn't really think Alex added anything special to the show from a comedic standpoint other than be kind of a "cheerleader" type character and thought she brought Brian's character downwardly and kept him from being his usual fun self. Thankfully, they rectified that and Alex only lasted the one flavor, assuasive Brian to become a full-blown, comical character. At the end of the twenty-four hours, when information technology comes to one-act, I favor laughter over realism! Also, I thought that Brian and Casey had a lot more chemical science every bit a wacky kind-of-but-not-actually-a-couple couple than Brian and Alex had as an actual couple!

A funny, lighthearted satire, WINGS is i of the all-time ensemble comedies that has ever graced goggle box!

I love this testify!

I never watched the show when it had its run on NBC. I but recently started to check out the reruns on United states of america, and I really enjoy it! It'southward a very funny, well-written show with a great bandage, led past the great Steven Weber.

Actually, I started to feel curious most the show later on watching the picture show "Sour Grapes." It's a hilarious movie (if y'all haven't see it, please check it out!) that's written and directed by Larry David, the co-creator of my favorite show "Seinfeld." Weber was bully in the role, and he simply has exquisite timing.

Well, I started watching the reruns on a regular basis, always looking forward to them to get some large laughs. Tony Shalhoub is another fine actor, and he is the best out of the whole supporting bandage. His phony emphasis and outrageous antics are hilarious. Thomas Haden Church building, from the short-lived but hugely funny sitcom "Ned and Stacey," is also very talented, and he'due south a joy to spotter.

If yous, like me, never got the run a risk to see the show on NBC, delight check information technology out on USA. It'southward an absolute anarchism!

My score: viii (out of 10)

high flight fun

A "Thanks" spin-off that started off mediocre (buried in a Friday, 9 o clock time slot) but before long establish its wheels to become a truly sharp, perfectly written sitcom. If you catch the reruns on Us you might get lucky and see the testify in the eye of its run. Then when you see the early, not then hot episodes you wont exist and so hard on it. Basically the premise was ii brothers, reunited later on years of grouse, decide to run an airline together. Tim Daly and Steven Weber were Joe and Brian Hackett, i straight laced, the other an approachable goofball. Their daily life consisted of gabbing with their longtime friend Helen who worked at the lunch counter, played by the gorgeous Crystal Bernard, plus fending off insults and competition from David Schramms Roy Biggins, possessor of the airline one counter abroad. Others featured were Thomas Haden Church building'due south dummy mechanic Lowell, and sweetness-tempered Fay, the brothers ticket amanuensis. Later the outset season Tony Shalhoub was added as cabby Antonio, and in season 4 the lovely Farrah Forke was brought on for a couple of years as Brians love interest. Most of the time Joe establish himself on again off again with Helen, with the rest of the cast dating a myriad of visiting characters. Must run across episodes include "Joe Blows," when Daly deals with an unbearable amount of the casts bug, the one where Helen tries to get prepare for a date as each of the cast keeps dropping by, and definitely the one where Brian and Joe lose the body of a bitchy rich lady's male parent. The concluding episode has some of the gang coming into coin, but like its sis show "Thank you" does not give its characters big send-offs. But that last show is all the same decently written and provides fans with a decent payoff. So if you lot have the chance, hop on board "Wings," 1 of the more underrated sitcoms ever. (Biggest sign of that: non ane Emmy that I know of to anyone involved with the show. Hissssss.)

Ane of the most underrated comedies

It makes me made that this show is and so underrated and never got the credit it deserved. Information technology's one of best comedies e'er. The characters are funny and keep you coming back each episode. The storylines are funny. I similar how about of the show takes place in the airdrome just like cheers did with the bar. The comedy is smart just like Frasier only it'south more silly like cheers so it'south a proficient mix betwixt the two shows and maybe that's why the bear witness is forgotten. In my opinion the show is one of the best comedies always and if anyone gets a chance you should spotter this gem of a prove.

But Got The Boxed Set To Relive The Old Serial!

Warning: Spoilers

This series came out and ended when I was in my 20'south. I'm in my 50's at present and getting a few of the one-time boxed sets from my youth. Season 1-4 is Aureate! Season 5-6 is hit or miss. Season seven-8 is more miss than hit. They got rid of the actor who played Lowell at the end of season 6 then they could fill every show with Joe/Helen drama and information technology was a big mistake. Lowell was the eccentric mechanic who always gave united states of america laughs. When they took him out of the mix, the bear witness took a steady nose-dive and only made it 2 more seasons. Want to remember the best? Stick with seasons 1-4 and salvage seasons 5-8 when nothing else is on to spotter. I would rate Seasons 1-4 in the 9-ten Star range. Those were the years when the writers were however coming up with proficient story lines that would exit yous laughing fifty-fifty after the episodes concluded.

1 of television's funniest

Second merely to SEINFELD, I call up WINGS was the second best sitcom of the 90s. With a terrific ensemble cast of the correct actors in the right parts and writers who never lost their humor, WINGS satisfied with seven seasons of solid one-act. Tim Daly and Steven Weber led the show as brothers Joe and Brian Hackett, ii pilots who ain and operate a little airplane service on Nantucket Island. David Schramm as Roy Biggins was their contest, who owned the rival service at the same airport, their counters less than 15 feet from each other. Rebecca Schull was Fay, the blood brother'south ticket seller, Thomas Haden Church building was slow-but-effective mechanic Lowell (i of the very few parts in which Church was effective and actually funny), Crystal Bernard was Helen, who ran the lunch counter in the final and was a childhood friend of the brothers, and Tony Shaloub was a delight as cab driver Antonia Scarpacci. Later characters included Farrah Forke as helicopter airplane pilot Alex Lambert, who oft had the boys vying for her angel, and the lovely Amy Yasbeck as Helen'southward sister, Casey.

From showtime to stop, the bear witness was a express joy-a-minute riot thanks to sharp writers and the splendid comedic timing of its stars, with too many standout episodes to possible go into here. The show knew how to entertain without reducing itself to low-forehead one-act like sex activity jokes and toilet humor. Instead, the accent was kept on just good honest laughs. Brian Haley's replacement as a new mechanic when Church unwisely left (for his own show that was gone before the first flavour was over) wasn't very expert, just he ended up hardly existence used anyway. Although it could accept gone for longer, it was nice to encounter the show end while it was still a winner. A definite contender for future DVD release.

Boring is Interesting and Very Very Funny!!!!

The initial response to this bear witness is that it was a spin-off from the sitcom, "Cheers"; "Wings" was not easy to identify with, and perchance, it would final two seasons, three tops!! Much to the pleasant surprise of everyone, the superb graphic symbol portrayals, and the exceptional writing to this serial, fabricated information technology one of the almost pop shows in contempo times!! The show focused on the Hackett brothers, Joe and Brian, and their unexplainable disappointments in life... The other characters followed adapt!!! Joe, (Played by Tim Daly) was the super jock of yesteryear who tried to be perfect, he was only recognized in the small, one horse, town of Nantucket, and slowly just surely, even that fame began to quickly erode!! Brian, (Steven Weber) was the hapless Casanova who burdened his blood brother with his grotesque lack of responsibility in dealing with even the slightest matter!! Helen (Crystal Bernard) was the onetime childhood chub, now fit and trim, however, she was even so very non-motivated about her life!! Roy (David Schramm) was the biggest jerk in the earth, having a halfway decent mind made this situation all that much more nauseating to tummy!! Faye (Rebecca Schull) was the conscientious and faithful worker who was an emotional Mardi-Grass! Lowell (Thomas Hayden Church) was the goof ball with a surprising succinct accuracy about certain issues!!(I had a friend, Ian, who was just like this) Those were the intricacies to being only the mechanic!! Antonio, (Tony Shaloub) he was the taxi driver who's life always went from bad to worse... Also on the show, were both Casie and Alex who were dear interests of Brian'due south, they were attractive women whose lives were on the decline in ane way or another!! When describing everyone'due south life in this series, it is tantamount to preaching apocalyptic doom!! These were lives which were besieged with unadulterated colorlessness, and, it nestled a kindred spirit with much of the goggle box audience (unfortunately)... It is the element of monumental failure in everyone'southward lives that created wonderful cannon fodder for this situation comedy!! This prove articulates copious aspects of lackluster beliefs from always being defeated with the ill fated endeavors in these graphic symbol's lives, and, the television show'southward witty dialog was written commensurately!!! The one episode which illustrated a domino upshot scene, with regard to Lowell wanting a Kodak moment ,and missing the perfect one, because he was looking the other manner, kind of summed this whole series up!! I love the T.V. Show "Wings" Tim Daly is i of my favorite television actors, and Steven Weber is and then incredibly funny!! The writing was fabled on this prove, and the character portrayals on "Wings" are some of the best I have ever seen on television!! I rate this bear witness 10 out of x!!

Nosotros Demand more shows like "Wings" on the air..

Wings, is a slap-up sitcom. One of my all time favorites. Information technology had great characters, really, funny dialouge and a neat setting. You lot couldn't really ask for more. I remember every single character was groovy but my favorite would have to be Lowell. Only a funny, lovable mechanic, who's not the brightest bulb, thats for certain. I'1000 glad WINGS is now on Nick-At-Nite, considering its a keen show. I think that Sitcoms have been in a slump for a while. I mean, certain, Friends is funny, but definately not every bit good every bit information technology used to exist, and Will and Grace is probably the best sitcom on TV, and Everybody Loves Raymond is fun, but in that location really isn't annihilation like "Wings" on anymore. Hopefully soon, a sitcom volition show upwardly, that has an ORIGINAL thought and becomes a hit, like Wings. I mean, with then many sitcoms with copycat ideas, no wonder original shows similar "American Idol" and "Survivor" are such large hits.

Lesser Line: This is a peachy show.

Cheers!

Wonderfully entertaining, clever 90s sitcom.

I'm a tail-terminate Infant Boomer-pregnant that I was born between 1954, and 1964. My segment of the Boomers, were e'er over-adumbral in the media, past both our older Boomer brethren, and Gen-Xers. So, it was great to finally find a sitcom like "Wings", with tail-stop Boomers as the main focus of the show. I could identify with these guys, since we hailed from the same generational zeitgeist, so-to-speak.

The series revolved around two very different brothers, named Joe and Brian Hackett. Joe was the elder, responsible, and direct-arrow 1. Brian was his younger, much more complimentary-spirited sibling (Brian could be a real screw-up, just somehow always came out okay in the end). Because of their radically different approach to life, their conflicts were the chief source of laughs for the evidence.

The Hackett brothers ran a tiny, i-aeroplane driver airline, on the island of Nantucket. They were surrounded by a menagerie of other colorful characters on the prove. Their lifelong friend, Helen, ran the tiffin-counter at their piddling airline. Roy Bigguns was their e'er-egocentric competitor. Roy always loved to crow that his airline, Aeromass, was bigger and ameliorate than the Hacketts' puny performance. Lowell was their ding-bat mechanic. And Faye was their receptionist/flight journalist, who was always hilariously cheerful.

In later seasons of the bear witness, Lowell left. And then Antonio, the sad-sack airport cabdriver, joined the cast. The Antonio character was only mildly funny to me. I idea Lowell was much funnier. On occasion, extra Farrah Fork appeared on the show, as Brian's no-nonsense, war machine pilot girlfriend, Alex. She could never tame Brian's free-spirited ways, no affair how difficult she tried (and information technology was always fun to sentinel her go on trying). Helen's klutzy sister, Casey, became a regular cast member late in the serial. These extra characters added their own comedic dash to the overall ensemble of the show.

"Wings" was never one of NBC'southward main comedy attractions, similar "Seinfeld", or "Thank you" were. But for x seasons, it managed to generate a loyal viewer-send. In my opinion, I remember this was due to the fact that many viewers (myself included), liked to watch the Hackett brothers live-out their dreams. After all, they owned their ain business, doing what they loved (flying). They had comfortable, solidly middle-grade life-styles, even owning their own gorgeous house. They lived on a breathtaking island, far from whatsoever offense-ridden, major urban areas. All-in-all, the Hackett brothers were tail-end Boomers, who also managed to win the proverbial game-of-life. Many of united states other tail-cease Boomers could be inspired in our own lives, by watching the Hacketts every week on TV!

Helen is a classic

Warning: Spoilers

Crystal Bernard's Helen is an absolute wonder. Delivery, pacing, execution is as good every bit it gets. Helps a lot that she's given equally good dialog and staging. The residue of the female person ensemble (Faye, Alex, Casey and Bunny) is almost as skillful in both categories. Good writing, exemplary performances.

The secondary male cast is tolerable: Ray, Lowell and Antonio are oftentimes good equally foils, occasionally intrusive and, rarely, only plain irritating.

Then at that place are the misnamed brothers, the Brain who should be named Joe and the Joe who should be named Brain. Oh! that they should have been named correctly and Oh! that they should have been written as secondary foils instead of principles.

The idea was, plain, to play Brian'south narcissism and egocentricity off against Joe's anal retentiveness, the proper noun thing being function of the joke.

Doesn't piece of work on any level and both of them borderline on sociopathology in many, many episodes. Similar the one in which Helen is bedridden afterward a peculiarly nasty root canal. Joe keeps running off to some kind of male bonding party with guys he doesn't requite a damn about. Information technology's obvious that it'southward the ritual of Males Watching Basketball on TV that he's into and nothing wrong with that, except that he keeps trying to pretend that he'due south tending Helen in her sickbed. When exposed, he expresses neither remorse for 'abandoning' Helen or whatsoever sense of guilt for trying to deceive her, but irritation at being defenseless.

Like shooting fish in a barrel to see what the writers were trying to do, playing the dichotomy for laughs and, while Singer could have pulled information technology off, it'southward simply irritating hither, to the betoken of wanting to put a bullet in Joe'southward head.

Contrast that with Bernard'south bedridden Helen which is a beautiful instance of schtick.

Brian is fifty-fifty worse. While the writers occasionally attempt to invest him with a modicum of empathy, those attempts are overwhelmingly overridden by his native egocentricity. In reality both Brian and Joe are written every bit borderline sociopaths, period.

Again, the writers' intent is obvious; just as it is obvious that they miss the characteristic that allowed Singer in particular and Yiddish theater in full general to succeed with these types: an understanding of all of their characters' innate humanity, regardless of their individual personality flaws. For some reason, while the writers get it with everyone else, they completely miss it with Brian and Joe and wind upwards with two totally unsympathetic characters who, thank God, are frequently underplayed, assuasive the residue of the cast to shine.

Despite the twin sociopaths, Wings is still a get-go-rank comedy on a level with Cheers, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart (the showtime series), Dick Van Dyke et al.

When Brian and Joe are absent or secondary, information technology's an unquestionable x.

Good and Bad

A lot of this show was really funny and well-written. Brian, Lowell, Faye, Joe, Roy and even Antonio are fairly solid, funny characters. The worst graphic symbol on the bear witness, unfortunately, is Helen. It's not Crystal Bernard'southward fault; it'southward the way the character is written. She'south neurotic, psychotic, selfish and obnoxious. Brian is a womanizing jerk but he'due south likable. Roy is selfish and uncaring but he's likable. Helen is so unreasonably self-centered that she just isn't likable. This show would take been a one thousand thousand times better if they had toned down her character. She over-reacts to everything, e'er plays the victim ad e'er gets abroad with everything, even when she'due south in the wrong, and information technology just gets really tiresome and un-funny.

Never Took off the Basis

Below average comedy series that had the potential to be something better. Basically its Taxi version with airplanes and airports instead of taxis. The acting was good in some episodes but could never sustain a level of consistency. Some of the episodes were very practiced while most were at all-time below par.

Never watched this bear witness earlier

I'm not sure when the show was on the air what dark maybe I was in college I used to go to nights a week and then I imagine wings was on during those times. So I never watched this show before. So I purchased a Roku and low and behold one Statuon, Pluto, has a Wings channel, every half hour a new episode comes on. I ha r now seen the airplane pilot episode twice this calendar week. Anywho, this is such a slap-up serial. The actors have such dandy chemical science, and Crystal Bernard was great as the girl next door. And Thomas Hayden Church building was and then good as Lowell. He has become one of my faves since doing Sideways. But bang-up show

Wonderful And Underrated

This show had me from the start when Steve Weber in the first episode complimented the owner of the rival flight company for getting rid of the life jackets to salve coin and hiring a novice pilot correct out of flight school. Just when I think I've defenseless my jiff, a voluptous brunette walks past and he blurts out, "Major Hooters," only to save himself from her wrath by introducing himself as his change-ego, "Major Bob Hooters." This was the kind of writing and creativity that made this under-appreciated series a hitting for almost ten years as NBC floated it all over it's schedule. Yet, the fans continued to follow it. The other thing that made this testify was sexpot Crystal Bernard, a survivor from the last season of Happy Days. The evidence had an incredible ensemble of talent including Bernard, Weber, Tim Daly, David Scramm, Rebecca Schull and Thomas Haden Church who played the slightly annoying mechanic Lowell Mather. Replaced past the dynamic Tony Shalhoub as the haplessly unlucky Antonio Scarpacci, the series even became a cousin to the equally successful Cheers with crossovers with its best talents. Underrated for its time on Tv set, this incredibly funny and relentless series lasted an enjoyable seven years until Amy Yasbeck joined the bandage as Helen's jinxed sister, Casey, mayhap named afterward Bernard'due south Happy Days character, K.C. Cunningham. Yasbeck's arrival signified the sign that the series had run out of ideas equally Daly and Bernard's characters got married for the matrimony jokes and millions of Crystal Bernard fans lost their hearts.

Well worth revisiting

Wings is essentially an homage to and a US adaptation of the timeless, classic British sitcoms which are centered on one location and populated by a bevy of memorable, sarcastic characters. Are Y'all Being Served instantly comes to mind. By today'due south standards the wait and feel may be a piffling static and claustrophobic. But everything else sparkles - the writing, acting, delivery, dialog. Not a hint of angling for laughs here. What I besides establish refreshing was Tim Daly's portrayal of Joe: That extinct brood of a beautiful yet shy, thoughtful and vulnerable human. Joe alone is enough to give this show a try.

One of my all-fourth dimension favorites

I am and so glad that The states Network continues to rerun the episodes of this swell show. With ane exception I found this to be amid those shows with a once in a lifetime cast. The simply exception was Farah Forke, an admittedly terrible extra, who has dragged down every series that she has been a part of. Her character Alex was contentious, had a constant chip on her shoulder, and constantly felt that she had to show anybody how tough she was. BUT, when the shows' producers saw the light and bounced her they hit a dwelling house run with the casting of Amy Yasbeck in the role of Helen's sister. IMHO this evidence was also written as whatever sitcom ever was. I hated to run into the character of Lowell leave but I can't blame Thomas Hayden Church for trying to make information technology equally the star of his own series (sadly, the series was a dud). And, while I would never want to associate professionally or socially with Roy, he was played perfectly by David Schramm. The final two part episode did a superb job of wrapping things up. It was a existent bittersweet moment for me as I imagined what life would be like for Brian who and so abruptly gave up his dream life in the islands to keep Sandpiper going while Joe was in Europe with Helen. Who knows if he really got to fulfill that dream one year later. And so many things can modify in that time frame. This was a bear witness that people like me could get involved in and information technology all seemed then existent. I hoe that USA continues the reruns for many, many years.

Lots of laughs at a pocket-sized regional airport

One of my absolute favorite sitcoms of all fourth dimension. A cleverly written and extremely well acted show revolving around eight people's lives and their jobs which are based at the airdrome. The cast is terrific and I won't bore you lot with each character's nuances other than to say all the roles were very well cast. The comedy is ironic, sarcastic, sardonic, slapstick, politically wrong, and sexist. And those are merely a handful of reasons I loved this show. Now that the testify has gone to DVD I would recommend it highly whether you were a fan or would like to run into smart one-act. If yous weren't a fan you'll see many familiar faces and it was, afterwards all, the evidence that launched the career of Tony Shalhoub (MONK). Promise you dear it the mode I did!
